The Bell Tower at San Dimas High School will stand on a firmer foundation now that its refurbishing is complete.
The tower, which was dedicated in 1980, houses the original San Dimas Elementary School bell. New supporting beams and a wider base will improve the structure.
"Anytime you ask students to take a picture or draw something about the campus, the bell tower is the most popular icon," Principal Michael Kelly said. The bell is rung each time the school wins a CIF championship – an important tradition in the collective memory of the campus. The bell has sounded each year for the past three years for Baseball, Football, and Track championships.
"Students remember the bell tower from their time at San Dimas High School," Mr. Kelly said. "I'm glad we could find a way to keep it standing for the next generation of students."
